The initial idea to start a daylily garden was inspired by the Richard Norris’ Ashwood Garden in Glouster, OH. The fact that daylilies are so easily maintained has added to the success of Firefly Hollow. The nature tours on the segways were prompted by the desire to enable people with more limited abilities to have easier access to nature and its beauty. Gardens in the Works is a 4.5 acre daylily farm that was started in 2004. The farm is part of the American Hemerocallis Society (AHS) display gardens that consists of over 1,000 different cultivars with varieties from the 1970’s to 2008. Our dream was to become farmers, to become producers of a product that would benefit the community in which we live. Our dream materialized with the investments of work and resources we've made here and our goal is to have a model orchard based on modern high- density planting techniques for fruit production. We started planting apple trees in 1999, planting 1,000 trees per year until we reached a total of 7,000 and produced our first crop in 2001.
